Joanne & Company was founded in October of 1994 by Joanne Rackow. She graduated from USC and went through the executive training program at Bullock’s Department Store and then went on to become Assistant Buyer of the housewares dept. In 1979 she went to work for the N.S. Gustin Company, a national rep organization. In 1994 the decision was made to close the company, and at that time Joanne & Company was born.
The first showroom was on the 4th floor and specialized in hand-made American product with an emphasis on folk art, table top and art glass. Within a few years it was necessary to expand to the 8th floor. Next stop was a 4,000 square foot showroom on the 7th floor. The current home of Joanne & Company is a 5,000 square foot showroom on the 3rd floor which is owned and managed by Joanne and her daughter Jamie who joined the company in 2001. Joanne is currently Treasurer of the L.A. Mart Gift Association. Dante Capozzola handles customer service and all computer work including brochure design and photography. There are 11 experienced reps on the road that cover CA, AZ, NV, HI and NM. Today the company specializes in baby product, decorative accessories including table top, and has expanded to women’s accessories.
The mission of Joanne & Company is to work in partnership with its independent reps, buyers and manufacturers to increase sales for the mfg. and provide great product for their retailers to order, hence improving their business as well. They do this by having a strong group of independent reps that are knowledgeable within their field and do their best to help their retailer grow their business. The showroom is warm and inviting. A customer does not feel pressure to buy, but is invited to look around and enjoy the product and displays. The manufacturers that are represented in the home decor, gift, fashion accessories and baby business are chosen because they fit together well; they don’t compete with each other but are complimentary. The goal is to give the customers the ability to order multiple lines for their stores.
